Measuring flour correctly is extremely important when making our recipes, especially for desserts. That’s why we’re dedicating a whole blog post to it.

If you’ve ever made cookies that didn’t spread, cake that turned out dry, or not-so-fudgy brownies, it’s possible that you were measuring flour incorrectly. In doing so, the flour gets packed into the measuring cup and leads to dry baked goods.

To correctly measure flour, make sure you are using a dry measuring cup. Start by using a spoon to scoop flour into your measuring cup, overfilling the cup. Next, using the back of a knife, scrape the excess flour off of the measuring cup.

Now you’re ready to make perfect desserts!

I use a kitchen scale for measuring flour, and measure in grams to get the most accuracy. To me, the scale is an essential tool for baking, although of course not mandatory. The “scoop and level” method is good, too.

Great tip! Our recipes use cups rather than grams, which is why we recommend this method.

Hi! Do you shake it a little bit after spooning it in?
