Vegan Mushroom Gravy

This gravy is so flavorful, easy to make, and perfect for topping vegan poutine (get our recipe here) or your favorite tofurkey! All you need is:

Vegan butter (we use this brand)


Rice milk (we use this kind)

Vegetable Stock (here is an organic version)

Soy Sauce (we like this low-sodium brand)

Vegan Mushroom Gravy

The easiest vegan gravy to top any dish you'd like – we love it on vegan poutine and tofurkey!

  • 2 tbsp. vegan butter
  • 3/4 cup mushrooms diced
  • 1/2 cup shallots or onions diced
  • 3 tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 cup rice milk plain, unsweetened
  • 1 cup vegetable stock
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 2 tsp. soy sauce low sodium


  • Melt butter in a small pan over low-medium heat.
  • Add diced mushrooms and shallots (or onion) and mix. Cook covered for five minutes (stirring occasionally).
  • Add flour and mix until flour is completely incorporated.
  • Add rice milk and vegetable stock. Mix well.
  • Next, add garlic powder and soy sauce. Bring to a boil and then let simmer for 10-15 minutes.
