Smoothies don’t have to be boring — and this smoothie bowl recipe proves that! The base consists mainly of frozen banana, frozen strawberries, and cocoa powder for a deliciously thick and flavorful smoothie. Topped with lots of granola, fruit, and chocolate, this smoothie bowl is irresistible!

Ingredients

For this chocolate covered smoothie bowl, you’ll simply need:

Frozen bananas: chop up ripe bananas, place them in a bag or tupperware, and freeze them!

Frozen strawberries: buy these already frozen at the store or freeze your own!

Cocoa powder or chocolate protein powder: use your favorite chocolate protein powder or simply add some cocoa powder for a delicious flavor

Non-dairy milk: this helps blend the smoothie — the amount you’ll need will depend on how powerful your blender is

Maple syrup: This adds a touch of sweetness — add as much as you’d like or skip it if desired

Toppings: load your bowl up with granola, mini chocolate chips and chocolate chunks, sliced banana, and chocolate covered strawberries (see below for recipe)

How to make this smoothie bowl

  • Make the chocolate covered strawberries, if desired. Wash and dry two strawberries. Add two tablespoons of chocolate chips and a bit of coconut oil to a small bowl. Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth and creamy. Coat each strawberry in chocolate and place on parchment or wax paper. Let sit until the chocolate has hardened (you can place in the fridge to speed up this process).
  • Make the smoothie base. Add bananas, strawberries, cocoa powder, two tablespoons of milk, and desired amount of maple syrup to a high-speed blender. Blend until smooth and creamy, adding more milk as necessary (this will depend on the power of your blender).
  • Build your bowl: Pour the smoothie base into a bowl. Top the bowl with banana slices, granola, chocolate chips and chunks, and chocolate covered strawberries.
