Growing up, sour cream and onion dip was always a staple at our family parties. It was as simple as mixing a container of sour cream with a packet of onion soup mix. We set out to create a version of this dip that’s still easy to make but uses healthier, vegan ingredients.
To make this simple dip, you just need to whip up a batch of our cashew cream (make sure to set aside time for the cashews to soak) and mix in four simple ingredients!
The key ingredient is dried, minced onion. You can find this in most grocery stores or on Amazon.
You’ll also add in onion powder, garlic powder, and a dash of black pepper for the perfect combination of flavors.
If you’re making this for a crowd, you may want to make a double batch! It’s so good that it disappears quickly.

Vegan Artichoke Dip with Garlic Knots

Sour Cream & Onion Dip
Ingredients
- 1 batch cashew cream*
- 2 tbsp dried onion flakes
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- Dash of black pepper
- Green onion optional, for topping
Instructions
- Mix everything together (minus the green onion) very well in a small mixing bowl.
- Refrigerate until serving! We recommend chilling for at least 1-2 hours if your cashew cream is at room temperature. We love to top the dip with some chopped green onion and extra dried onion flakes and serve it with ridged potato chips.
Reminds me of french onion flavored sunchips! I subbed the vegan sour cream for cashew cream since I’m allergic to tree nuts and it worked great. After tasting, I decided to up the onion and garlic powders to give it a stronger flavor. Another great vegan dip recipe from 6VS!
